Making Poppies for Remembrance Sunday
The Crafters have been busy knitting poppies for Remembrance Sunday. We completed almost 200 which were used to decorate Morton Church Hall railings, the church gate and the ends of the pews. The poppies were also used to decorate inside Rolleston Church, where the Remembrance service was held. Click on the photographs below to see them in more detail.
Inspiring Women Flower & Craft Festival - Newstead Abbey
26 - 28 June 2015
Morton Fiskerton and Rolleston WI entered a display inspired by Margaret Humphreys, CBE, OAM.
She is a British social worker, and author from Nottingham. In 1987, she investigated and brought to public attention the British government programme of Home Children. This involved forcibly relocating poor British children to all parts of the Commonwealth often without their parents' knowledge.
We enjoyed researching the project and making our display. The gallery of photos below show some of the other exhibits which were on display at Newstead Abbey over the weekend of 26 - 28 June to celebrate the Centenary of the WI.
On the left is our wonderful display located in the magnificent fireplace in Newstead Abbey..
